Effective Date: August 9, 2026
Last Updated: August 9, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your use of the Bookshelf mobile application operated by Huda AbuSharr, an independent developer.
By using Bookshelf, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Bookshelf is intended for adults and mature audiences. It is not intended for children.
You are responsible for complying with applicable laws, Google Play terms, third-party service terms, and any rules that apply in your location.
Bookshelf may let you continue as a guest or sign in using email/password or Google sign-in.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and sign-in credentials. You are also responsible for activity that occurs through your account, including saved books, synced library data, purchases, AI usage, and notification settings.
Guest use may be limited and may not include account sync, purchase linking, AI Premium, or other signed-in features.
Bookshelf grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.
You may not copy, resell, redistribute, modify, reverse engineer, tamper with, or misuse the app except where allowed by applicable law.
Bookshelf may offer optional purchases through Google Play Billing, including:
Purchases are processed by Google Play and may be subject to Google Play payment, refund, cancellation, trial, renewal, and subscription policies. You are responsible for managing subscriptions through Google Play.
Bookshelf may verify purchase entitlements through a backend service, including Cloudflare Workers and D1. Premium availability may vary by region, device, account status, Google Play availability, service configuration, and provider limits.
AI Premium and other AI access options may include daily, monthly, per-feature, or rewarded-use limits. These limits may change to protect reliability, control costs, prevent abuse, or comply with provider limits. The app UI shows the currently available limits when applicable.
Non-premium users may see ads, including banner, interstitial, native, or rewarded ad formats. Ads may be served by Google AdMob and mediation partners such as Meta Audience Network and Unity Ads.
Rewarded ads, when available, may grant a limited bonus AI action after the ad provider confirms that the reward was earned. Rewarded ads and rewards are not guaranteed and may be unavailable because of network conditions, provider availability, account state, device compatibility, daily caps, or service configuration.
Bookshelf includes optional AI-powered features, including Book Chat, summaries, scanner assistance, recommendations, and Magic Discover movie-to-book results.
AI outputs are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, offensive, or unsuitable for your needs. You should verify important information before relying on AI-generated summaries, recommendations, scan results, explanations, or chat responses.
You may not use AI features to submit unlawful, harmful, abusive, infringing, privacy-invasive, or otherwise inappropriate content.
Bookshelf uses third-party sources for book metadata, covers, previews, EPUB lookup, downloads, PDFs, external reading links, and discovery content.
These sources may include Google Books, Open Library, Gutendex, bundled Goodreads-derived discovery picks, and other linked providers.
Bookshelf does not guarantee that any book, preview, EPUB, PDF, download, external link, full text, metadata, cover, or recommendation will be available, accurate, complete, lawful in every location, or suitable for every reader.
External websites, readers, downloads, and linked content are controlled by third parties and are subject to their own terms, policies, access rules, and availability.
Community reviews, user ratings, and public reader profiles are not included in this release.
The Book Scanner feature may process images captured with your camera or selected from your gallery to identify books.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to submit any image you provide and that your use of the scanner complies with applicable laws and third-party rights.
Scanner results may be inaccurate or incomplete, and matching books may not always be available.
Bookshelf may store local app data such as preferences, cached book metadata, reading progress, reader settings, downloaded EPUB state, AI usage counters, and saved AI chat history on your device.
Files saved through Android Downloads may remain on your device until you delete them separately. Clearing app data, signing out, uninstalling the app, or deleting downloads may affect local access, reading progress, cached content, or saved chat history.
Signed-in accounts may sync supported library and reading state across devices. Sync depends on network access, account state, Firebase services, and service availability.
Bookshelf may offer optional notifications. You can manage notification permission and notification-related settings through the app or your device settings.
Notification delivery is not guaranteed and may depend on device settings, operating-system behavior, network access, and Firebase Cloud Messaging availability.
You retain any rights you have in content you submit to Bookshelf, such as prompts, scanner images, profile details, or support messages.
You grant Bookshelf permission to process submitted content as needed to provide app features, support, safety, diagnostics, and service operation.
You must not submit content that violates laws, infringes rights, invades privacy, contains malware, or misuses the app or third-party services.
Bookshelf relies on third-party services including Firebase Authentication, Firestore, App Check, Crashlytics, Cloud Messaging, Firebase Functions, Google sign-in, Google AdMob, Meta Audience Network, Unity Ads, Google Play Billing, Cloudflare Workers and D1, Google Books API, Open Library API, Gutendex, and Google Gemini AI.
Third-party services may change, become unavailable, impose limits, process data, or operate under their own terms and privacy policies.
You agree not to:
Bookshelf, including its design, code, branding, text, app-specific content, and user interface, is owned by the developer or licensed to the developer.
Third-party book covers, metadata, previews, links, downloaded content, trademarks, AI provider output, and other third-party materials remain owned by their respective rights holders.
All rights are reserved unless expressly stated otherwise.
Bookshelf may change, suspend, limit, or discontinue features at any time.
Features may depend on internet access, third-party providers, API limits, billing availability, account state, device compatibility, operating-system behavior, regional availability, and service configuration.
Bookshelf is provided “as is” and “as available.”
We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free operation, complete book availability, accurate metadata, accurate AI outputs, successful scanning, continued purchase availability, or continued availability of third-party services.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bookshelf and its developer are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, access, purchases, profits, content, reading progress, downloads, or use.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some limitations may not apply to you.
We may suspend or revoke access to Bookshelf or specific features if you violate these Terms, misuse the app, create risk, or if required by law, platform rules, provider rules, or service integrity needs.
You may stop using Bookshelf at any time. Some local files or downloads may remain on your device until you delete them.
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the State of Palestine, unless local consumer protection laws require otherwise.
We may update these Terms when app features, providers, policies, or legal obligations change. When we do, we will update the Effective Date and Last Updated date.
Continued use of Bookshelf after updated Terms are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
