Huda AbuSharr, an independent developer, (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Bookshelf mobile application.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Bookshelf processes, how it is used, and the choices available to you.

1. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Bookshelf, we may process the following categories of information:

• Account Information: email address, user ID, display name, and sign-in details for email/password or Google sign-in.
• User Library Data: favorite, read, and saved book states, library sync metadata, and account-linked library records.
• Local App Data: theme, dynamic color, notification, guest-session, premium, AI usage, Wi-Fi download, reader preference, reading progress, cached book metadata, and downloaded EPUB state.
• Search and Discovery Data: in-app search terms, category interactions, movie-to-book query inputs, and discovery request parameters.
• Book Scanner Data: images selected from gallery or captured with camera when you use scanner identification.
• AI Feature Request Data: prompts and related metadata such as book titles, authors, categories, language, favorite books, movie titles, and scanner image content.
• Purchase and Entitlement Data: Remove Ads status, AI Premium status, purchase metadata, and entitlement verification data.
• Device and Diagnostics Data: app version, device model, OS version, crash logs, and performance signals.
• Messaging Data: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) token when notifications are enabled and you are signed in.
• Advertising Data: ad-related identifiers and interaction events for non-premium users, subject to platform settings.
• Content Request Data: search, preview, EPUB lookup, download, and external-link request parameters used to fetch book metadata or reading content.

2. How We Use Information

We use collected data to:

• authenticate users and manage accounts,
• support guest mode,
• sync reading state across devices,
• provide book search, discovery, library, scanner, reading, and download features,
• open previews, EPUBs, downloads, or external reading links when available,
• generate optional AI-powered summaries, recommendations, scanner help, and Movie-to-Book results,
• apply AI usage limits,
• verify premium purchases and entitlements,
• improve performance and reliability,
• diagnose crashes and technical issues,
• send optional notifications,
• display ads to non-premium users.

Bookshelf relies on third-party book data, previews, downloads, and linked reading sources. Full-book access is not guaranteed for every title. AI responses are generated automatically and may be inaccurate, so important details should be verified.

3. Third-Party Services

Bookshelf uses third-party services, including:

• Firebase Authentication
• Firebase Firestore
• Firebase Cloud Messaging
• Firebase Crashlytics
• Firebase Functions
• Google sign-in
• Google AdMob
• Google Play Billing
• Google Books API
• Open Library API
• Gutendex
• Google Gemini API

These providers process data under their own policies and terms.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell personal data.

We may share data only with service providers needed to operate Bookshelf, when you request external content or AI features, when required by law, or when necessary to protect users, rights, or service integrity.

5. Data Retention

Local cached books, app preferences, reader preferences, reading progress, downloaded EPUB state, and AI usage counters remain on your device until you clear app data, uninstall the app, or they are replaced by newer cache entries.

Signed-in account and synced library data are generally kept while your account remains active. Purchase, crash, messaging, and provider-handled records are retained according to operational, legal, or provider policy requirements.

Scanner images are processed for identification and are not stored by Bookshelf as part of your synced library data.

6. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect data handled by the app. However, no method of transmission, storage, or third-party processing is completely secure.

7. Children’s Privacy

Bookshelf is intended for adults and mature audiences. It is not intended for children.

Because Bookshelf can surface third-party book data, previews, links, and AI-generated responses, content suitability may vary by title.

8. International Processing

Because Bookshelf relies on cloud providers and external content services, data may be processed or stored in countries where those providers operate.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your local laws, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data.

You can request deletion of your account and synced data by contacting:

You can also remove local app data by clearing app storage or uninstalling the app.

10. Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when app features, providers, or legal obligations change. When we do, we will update the effective date and last updated date.
